Our Rooms

At Sunflower Smile Childcare, we've thoughtfully designed our spaces to cater to the unique developmental needs of every child, from their very first months through to their preparation for school. Each room provides a safe, stimulating, and age-appropriate environment where children can learn, explore, and thrive with confidence.

Big Pre-School

Our Big Pre-School room is designed for children exploring their last year before starting primary school. Throughout this pivotal year, children are strongly encouraged to develop confidence, self-help skills, and crucial listening and attention abilities. Big Pre-School offers a stimulating environment that provides the vital balance between free play and engaging in adult-led activities designed to equip them with the necessary skills for the primary school environment.

Children actively participate in adult-led activities that are tailored around their individual developmental needs, providing them with valuable opportunities to scaffold their learning alongside staff and peers. We encourage independence as children take on small tasks and jobs during their daily routine, such as being a special helper, serving lunch, managing their own toileting, and brushing their teeth.

To further build on development and embed our nursery rules, the welfare and interests of the children are paramount. Within the room, we utilise visual learning aids such as a visual routine and 'now and next' boards to support understanding and self-regulation. We incorporate key features like dedicated group time, discussions about the weather, and days of the week, helping to bridge the link between pre-school and the structure of school. We pride ourselves on good parent partnership, displaying our months curriculum and keeping parents well-informed via our notice board located near the Big Pre-School front door. Our aim is to establish strong bonds with other children and their parents, ensuring everybody feels comfortable and confident in the transition to primary school.

Forest School

At Sunflower’s Nursery, we believe that some of the most profound learning happens outdoors, surrounded by nature. That's why we are incredibly proud to offer our enriching Forest School program, run by our wonderful external partners, Wild in the Woods. This unique collaboration extends our curriculum beyond the classroom walls and into the inspiring natural environment around us.

Wild in the Woods brings their expertise to our children, leading regular, long-term outdoor sessions that foster a deep connection with nature, building resilience, confidence, and independence.

Our Forest School, in partnership with Wild in the Woods, provides a fantastic complement to our indoor learning, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching educational journey for your child. It's where muddy hands lead to brilliant minds, and where smiles bloom as brightly as the wildflowers they discover.

We recognise and value every child as an individual, and we understand the importance of maintaining familiar routines and meeting every child’s unique needs. For this reason, we place great importance on open and ongoing communication between our staff and parents or guardians, working together to ensure every child feels happy, secure and well cared for.
