A Roar-some Day Out: Big Preschool Trip to Lincoln Zoo!

Yesterday was one of the most exciting days of the year here at Sunflowers Nursery our big preschool trip to Lincoln Zoo!

With the end of the year fast approaching and our older children getting ready to take their very big steps off to “big school” after the summer, this trip felt extra special. It was a wonderful final adventure to celebrate everything our pre-schoolers have achieved together.

Meeting the Residents

From the moment we arrived, the children’s eyes were wide with wonder. We strolled through the park spotting all sorts of incredible creatures. There were endless gasps, giggles, and tiny pointing fingers as the children discovered their favourite animals up close.

Some of the biggest highlights of the day included:

  • The Cheeky Monkeys: Watching the primates swing, climb, and show off their acrobatic skills had everyone laughing.
  • The Farmyard Corner: Getting the chance to see some familiar furry friends and talking about the sounds they make.
  • The Tropical House: Exploring the warm, lush environment and spotting the colourful birds and reptiles hiding in the greenery.

Learning Through Adventure

Trips like these are so much more than just a fun day out. They are a wonderful extension of our early years curriculum! Visiting the zoo gives the children a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Practise Social Skills: Walking in pairs, holding hands, sharing lunch on the grass, and looking out for one another highlights the wonderful teamwork and friendship we have watched grow all year.
  • Build Confidence: Navigating a new environment outside of the nursery helps develop independence and resilience key skills as they prepare for school.

Ready for Big School

As we look ahead to the end of the summer and watch these incredible children get ready to embark on their next big chapter in reception, days like yesterday remind us just how much they have grown. They are confident, curious, and more than ready to shine in school.

By the time we boarded the transport to head back to Sunflowers, it’s safe to say we had a very sleepy bunch of little explorers! Fresh air, excitement, and a lot of walking will do that to you.

We want to say a huge thank you to our amazing staff team for organising such a smooth and memorable trip, and to all of our wonderful parents for your ongoing support. What a brilliant way to wrap up the preschool year and make some truly unforgettable memories before the summer!
